Connections, accessibility, rules, and more

Connect to Other Transit

Need to connect to other transit services?  Monday through Friday ShastaConnect can connect you to other transit providers (typically at the RABA Downtown Redding Transfer Center), including:

Accessibility

Q: Are your vehicles Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessible?
A: Yes, all of our vehicles are equipped to secure up to two wheelchairs and similar devices.

Q: Do your vehicles have seat belts?
A: Yes, all of our vehicles are equipped with seat belts.

Bring Your Bike

Bikes are welcome! While bikes are not allowed inside the vehicles, every ShastaConnect vehicle is equipped with a bike rack on the front so you can have your bike with you when you get to your destination.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Make sure you booked your trip, including telling us you have a bike. If not, we may not have space for your bike.
  • Talk to your driver
    • Before you board, tell them you’ll be loading a bike.
    • When you’re ready to deboard, remind them that you’ll need to remove your bike from the rack.
    • When your bike is unloaded and the rack is back in its upright position, please give a wave to let the driver know they’re good to go.
  • Our racks can accommodate up to two bicycles per vehicle, and space is available on a first-come, first-served basis. This will be factored into your trip when you book it and may affect your wait time if space is limited.
  • Electric or gas-powered bikes are not allowed.
  • Bikes with tires larger than 2.3″ may not fit our bike racks.  Please know the measurement of your bike tires before booking, otherwise you may be denied a ride.
  • Bikes with fenders are not advised as they may not fit.
  • Riders are responsible for loading and unloading bikes. Drivers aren’t allowed to assist riders with this.
  • Riders use bike racks at their own risk. ShastaConnect assumes no responsibility for bikes or any items thereon that are lost, stolen, damaged, or left on racks.

Rider Code of Conduct

Our goal is for every rider to have a safe and comfortable ride experience. To that end, passengers are expected to observe the following Code of Conduct.

Any violation of this Code, Federal, State, or local law, including but not limited to conduct described in California Penal Code Section 640 can result in refusal of service, ejection from the system, fines, and/or arrest.  ShastaConnect reserves the right to modify and amend this Code of Conduct at any time.

We ask that ShastaConnect riders observe the following rules:

  1. Follow the directions of the driver regarding these policies and their enforcement.
  2. Show pass or pay the applicable fare for the service (if required). Refusing to pay is unlawful and may result in ejection from the bus, fines, or arrest.
  3. Do not distract the driver or interfere with operation of the vehicle. Doing so is not only a bad idea, it could be hazardous to you and everyone else.
  4. Riders sitting in seats equipped with safety belts must use them.
  5. Riders must wear clothing and shoes.
  6. No inappropriate personal hygiene. Personal hygiene and/or odors must not disrupt the reasonable comfort of or pose a health/safety risk to other people. Odors may include, but are not limited to, scents related to unlaundered clothing, lack of bathing, animal-related odors, and/or excessive perfumes.
  7. Priority seating may be reserved for seniors, passengers with disabilities, pregnant women, and/or small children in a car-seat. Any passenger in Priority Seating who is requested to relinquish their seat to accommodate one of the aforementioned passengers must do so. This rule extends to occupying any location designated for use by persons in wheelchairs if such location is required to accommodate them.
  8. Standing while the vehicle is in motion, throwing objects, smoking (including e-cigarettes), drinking, or eating onboard is not permitted.
  9. Lying down or occupying more than one seat with your body, luggage, or personal belongings is not permitted.
  10. Possession or consumption of alcohol or illegal drugs is not permitted.
  11. Flammable materials are not allowed onboard the vehicles.
  12. Pets may be transported in a carrier but must remain in the carrier for the entirety of the trip. The carrier must be closed at all times and must fit on your lap or under your seat. Carriers may not block doorways, aisles, or impede the ability for others to get on or off the vehicle.  Service animals are excluded.
  13. Service animals must remain under control of the passenger at all times and must refrain from aggressive behavior while riding.
  14. Strollers, wheeled carts, and foldable powered and non-powered non-ADA personal mobility devices must be folded before boarding, switched off if powered, and stowed safely away from the aisles and safety exits. These items cannot interfere with passenger movement and cannot block wheelchair access.
  15. Disruptive conduct of any nature by passengers may result in the passenger’s removal from the bus and/or refusal of future service.
  16. Damaging or defacing the vehicle or other transit property, including but not limited to bus shelters, benches, and signs is prohibited.
  17. Opening or tampering with emergency windows is prohibited, except during an emergency.
  18. Conversations between passengers and on cell phones must be kept at a reasonable volume.
  19. Threatening, vulgar, or abusive language while onboard is not permitted. Threatening a driver or passengers could result in arrest.
  20. Music or media devices can only be listened to with headphones or earphones.
  21. Signs or other materials may not be placed on the bus except by transit management.
  22. Possession of hazardous materials is not permitted.
  23. Possession of weapons of any kind is not permitted, unless exempt under federal, state, or local law.
  24. Soliciting for goods or services is prohibited.  This includes offering items or services for sale; bartering or exchanging any goods, services or merchandise on vehicles; begging; or panhandling.

Reasonable Modification

ShastaConnect is committed to ensuring riders have full access to our services.  If you believe that a modification to this Code of Conduct or any other ShastaConnect policy or procedure is in the best interest of ensuring our system is accessible to you, and it can be reasonably made, we will make every effort to accommodate your request.  To request a reasonable modification to ShastaConnect’s policy, please call us at (530) 226-3075 or email us at ride@shastaconnect.org. In the event that a modification is needed immediately, for example to respond to an emergency or unforeseen medical condition, the driver, at their own discretion, may make a one-time exception.
